The point is that support for either is greater in younger generations than in older generations. Currently 44% of Americans support gay MARRIAGE- not civil unions. As older generations fade into history and its place is taken by younger generations, gay marriage will become a reality.

If current trends continue, the tipping point will be somewhere around 2020.
