One major flaw to your theory: Nobody else knows that the grandparent is coming. The only people privy to that are the hostess and the person who asked. And even if the other guests did know, that doesn't mean they'd all bring grandparents along. Or do you automatically invite extra people when you hear somebody new has been invited to some event you're attending?
