The issue is the patriotism of having in mind that arms might be used against the government. What is forseen is not that _this_ government might need to be overthrown, but rather, that we might need to overthrow a government that has overthrown our government by forceful coup. Such coups have happened in other countries; some people think we don't need to consider that contingency in America because coups don't happen here due to our magical soil (described above).

What's more likely is that coups don't happen here because the armed citizenry deters it. (Yes, I know a government could destroy even an armed citizenry via nuclear weapons, but what's the point of being king if all your subjects have been vaporized and the land poisoned?)
