Pogue Mahone:
Obama got elected due to a backlash against the reps, not because America decided to take a hard turn to the left. Things are being discussed that have not been discussed before because Obama is a far leftist.....or at least the people who are advising him are far leftists. They are being discussed and then going nowhere because alot of the dem majority is made up of centrist and even conservative leaning democrats who took advantage of the reps misfortune. The more people get over the buzz they got from seeing Obama in his speedo, the less they like him, so far.

I think that a lot of Democratic voters, especially in the primaries, actually did decide to "take a hard turn to the left." Take, for example, the issue of health insurance reform. To Republicans, the polls showing that upwards of 57% of Americans want the "public option" can only be explained as a statistical anomaly, or a lack of understanding among the respondents of the horrors of "socialized medicine". To Democrats, on the other hand, those results make perfect sense. . . because "socialized medicine" is exactly what we elected Obama to produce.

To be sure, the Democrats have been benefiting from a popular backlash against the Republicans. . .but that backlash isn't based on trivia. People turned against the GOP's substantive policies, not their bad haircuts.
