So, you decided to go ahead and inject the baby with live bacteria, and hope for the best. I consider that highly irresponsible -- downright crazy, even. Let me explain.

Every baby I have known has loved to put things in its mouth, including filthy and germ laden objects. Every small child has loved to mess around in the dirt and mud outdoors, and sooner or later children step on rusty nails and other sharp objects, thereby injecting themselves with massive amounts of live bacteria. In a single instance they inject themselves with more bacteria than all the vaccinations in a lifetime. If you do not give your child a DPT shot, she is as likely to get tetanus as any child who ever lived. You have decided to run that risk, which is far more serious than the risk of a reaction to the shot. If you had any notion of what tetanus is like you would be at the doctor's office tomorrow morning to get the shot.
