I disagree. An unvaccinated person is just a little disease vector running around who can pick up and transmit a potentially lethel disease at any time.

A completely different situation. People do not choose to have Schizophrenia. They do choose to not have their children vaccinated. We make allowances for people who have conditions which they did not choose which increase the probability that they may harm someone. For instance, we don't lock men up even though they are much more likely to commit a violent crime than women are.

Incurable STDs, there are four of them and of course we know HIV is the worst but all present significat health risks, what restricitons should we put on people who carry these disease.

Once again, a completely seperate issue. A person with HIV can avoid transmitting the disease to other people quite easily. A person with measles can not. In any case, a person with HIV who went around having unprotected sex with people without informing them will go (and rightfully so) to jail.

Slipperly slope arguements are not logical. Each individual situation needs to be examined on its own merits. A slippery slope arguement essentially means that a person can't argue the exact issue and so picks one that he or she thinks is related and argues that one. Vaccinations are a seperate issue from people with mental illness and both should be discussed on their own merits.

That is what we ar talking about here, not a general touchy feely thing called freedom, but what power the state should have.

And we've defined what powers the state should have. The state has the power to promote the general welfare. Having people die or become disabled from easily preventable diseases is the anthesis of this. It's a pretty clean case.

I would caution, that the state only has one tool init's box to enforce it's power, that is violence, men with guns.

Or deprive people of the carrot. So, a person whose children aren't vaccinated can not attend public school, etc. I don't think they need to shoot parents who aren't vaccinating....
