The Mormon culture you describe seems like it is pretty brutal to the psyche - all the while trying to be so "good" .... very similar to the way I was raised, but ramped up several notches.

Sorry to hear you have arthritis, I know how that feels. But, fwiw, your writing conveys a lot and is very accessible, so I would say you do a good job with it.
