My old age will be just fine, thank you. I can dedicate myself to helping those who exist without contributing more population than is necessary.
When we actually expand into the universe we can, and most certainly will, rise to the challenge of filling the universe with our seed. Right now we live only on this world. This world does not need more people.
Do my genes need to be passed on? No. Out there, somewhere, in some home, in some teeming slum, in some clean and sterile hospital, on some farm, is a person quite capable of taking my place. They share my genetics almost exactly and that, my friend, is good enough for me. My genes and your genes will not make a difference since all our genes are the same. We all share the same genetic makeup. We are breeding so quickly my genes will not be missed.
I am not so arrogant to believe that my genes have any special properties. There is a child in Africa, right now, provided someone helps him or her survive H1N1 or AIDS or starvation, who can contribute as much as my progeny could. Why not give that person a chance?
If you feel God calls you to produce babies, do so. It is your right. But you post insinuates that those that can't bear children are cursed or damned by God. I will never accept that.
Enjoy your old age. I hope you don't live long enough to see your children and grandchildren have a lower standard of living that you do,or God forbid, starve, because of competition for resources.
