I would love to join your writer's group, I appreciate you asking me. I'm working on a couple of things and need feedback so this will work out great.
We only had insurance one time and that was in 1979 when I had my oldest son which was a good thing because I had complications due to hypertension. We had to pay for my hospital stay out of pocket when I had my stroke. For one week it was $10,000 and basically all they did was bring me my meds and check my BP. My husband and daughter did everything else for me. The hospital never even offered to or bathed me. I told them I needed to bathe and they said okay the shower is in your bathroom. I was also told they did not have a shower stool or chair when I asked for one. I look back at that and cannot imagine how I managed to shower myself with the whole left side of my body inoperable let alone dress myself afterwards. I remember sliding towards the floor of the shower knowing if I got down there I'd never get back up on my own so I had to wedge myself between the walls. That was when I realized how much my life had changed forever and all I could do was cry. Happily I did recover much of what I lost.
