My wife and I used to plan our vacations around the Chinook bookstore in Colorado Springs. It was the perfect independent bookstore--perfect because they had the biggest little collection of foreign field guides (bird books) I'd ever seen. Then graduate school happened. Ten years went by, and finally we got back to Colorado Springs, and, Holy Christ, we'd missed the closing of the Chinook by a couple of months.

There's that big-assed mega-church there now, though, so it's got that going for it.
