Re: God's Harvard-Patrick Henry

Thomas Paine:

Actually this is flatly untrue. When I attended, there were students in good standing who disagreed vehemently with the school's views.

I ask out of curiosity, because I know virtually nothing about Patrick Henry University. What type of disagreement are we talking about here? Differences in theology? Atheism or agnosticism? Fundamental political differences?

I guess I would question why someone whose beliefs were completely unaligned with those of the University would chose to attend -- or is it a matter that the process of studying some of the issues caused some to change their views to something quite different from those of the University?

People whose views are completely unaligned with other universities attend them all the time. As someone else pointed out, right-wingers attend ivy league schools, which are liberal, all the time.

When I attended, there were students who differed both politically and religiously. As far as I knew, they came to the school with their beliefs. Patrick Henry is well known among homeschoolers as extremely rigorous academically. That is why a lot of people come. Also, graduates have gone on to government positions, Harvard Law school, and other prestigious grad programs. Recently, a Patrick Henry student was named a Rhodes scholar. I can attest to the extreme difficulty of the classical curriculum and the intensity of the professors. For a homeschooler looking for a challenge, it's a very attractive option. Even those who disagree with the school's positions (which are actually not preached as much on campus as you might think) can get a good classical education there and be prepared for a top-level grad school.
