We live in such an entertainment-saturated culture, where people feel like they have to be entertained practically every second of the day. Can't you sacrifice a few minutes of your time reading your kid a book she loves without whining about it being boring and not entertaining enough? If millions upon millions of small children love Eric Carle then I would say that Eric Carle is an excellent author for small children. The kids are the critics and it's their opinion that matters, not yours.
