"Americans"?

Whoever wrote that is very likely a non-native English speaker. Phrases like "what went unmentioned" and "half way, so far successful" are giveaways, not to mention using "discerned" that way.

It's amusing that you assume anyone making small errors must be an American. I've edited writers from the British Isles in years past and some of them were much worse than writers in the US.
