My view of feminism gets me harsh comments from all quarters. Basically I see it as a necessary reaction to certain areas of social and economic change which came in during the industrial revolution (prior to the industrial revolution most families lived in rural areas and everyone contributed economically to a household-- the industrial revolution FIRST undermined womens' roles in the economy by automating textile production among other things which lead to a break in the equillibrium).
At the same time, I think that traditional, old school Feminism suffered a great deal from penis envy. Maybe this was a good thing based on the realities of the day. However it has also lead to certian imbalances. In some countries (including the UK iirc) there are assymetrical requirements regarding sexual consent esp. where alcohol is involved. In these areas (topically/geographically), women have in some cases become weaker versions of men.
I personally see the pendulum swinging a great deal the other way. The internet is allowing a return of the cottage industry. It may not seem as "important" as working for a large company, but I see these as FAR more satisfying to run and avoiding many of the traditional conflicts: Why choose between staying at home to raise kids and working when you can do both? Interestingly this works by further adding choices.
