Degs: The commentators are a wash -- commentators can have goose pimples over whomever they like -- I have a feeling much of the Fox "coverage" you're criticizing is actually commentary. As I don't get my news from Fox and haven't seen the commentary, I don't know. I've read newspaper accounts of the ACORN stings, and there weren't many of them, and ACORD did attempt to assist the illegal activities in most of those visits.
When it comes to the Op-Ed page at WaPo, we are again talking commentary, but the numbers of stories going one way or another, it's easy enough to count, and that's the ombudsman's job . Laudatory according to the ombudsman.
One presidential candidate is not more "newsworthy" than another. Because they are both potential leaders of the country, they are equally newsworthy, and balanced and unbiased news coverage would reflect this.
One can make a solid arguement that the fact that in B&W photos they were about the same but in photos where race could be seen there were more of Obama would indicate ANTI Obama bias since there is pervasive preference for white males in the USA. By highlighting that Obama is black, it would generate more votes for McCain.
One can make this argument. One can make any argument, but that doesn't mean the argument isn't nonsense, as this one is. Even the argument that race is less distinguishable in black & white photography is ludicrous. When one candidate is black and the other white, and they are distinguished from each other by shades of gray, their race is pretty damn obvious.
The numbers show the bias -- and most experts in the media industry agree that it was there. You don't work in the industry or read its commentary about itself in the trade journals as I do, or you'd know about this. They don't need to be normalized against an event, especially as you ignored the Project for Excellence in Journalism numbers entirely -- and they showed the pattern on a nationwide scale.
Persist in your beliefs, however, as I've long since given up on the idea that you will ever see the facts. Because your views are to the left, and most mainstream reportage agrees with you, you'll never be able to see it as biased.
