"wobble-bottomed becankled cockholster", "her thunderous ass", and "lard-assed lesbian". In fact, I find this kind of personally-targeted venom much more irritating when it accompanies a political position that I support than one that I oppose. Not only is it uncalled for, it also makes it easy to dismiss the valid point underlying the overheated rhetoric.
Yes, I know that posts in the BOTF aren't really for the purpose of persuading anyone; everyone is preaching to their own little choir. But I will say, that I have seen precious little in the way of defense of Obama's position re Honduras. The silence (mostly) from the political left in this country generally has been...interesting.
Still, I find it unbelievably annoying to hear his (Obama's) dishonest, disingenuous, distortions issued and accepted without criticsm or comment (except, astonishingly in Slate!!) by the media. Support for Zelaya is, as you say, the opposite of support for the "rule of law" and "democracy". It isn't Hillary Clinton mouthing the official line that pisses me off--she has to play the good soldier, and even if she actually is personally in favor of the official line, well she is on that side of the aisle.
What pisses me off is the fact that the media can't manage, when discussing the issue, to even mention that the Honduran army carried out the will of both their Supreme Court and their Congress when they kicked the bastard out. When a so-called journalist purports to do an analysis, you'd think that tidbit would at least merit a mention. Apparently NPR doesn't think so, and neither does my local paper or the AP.
One hopes that at some point, someone in this administration will wake up and figure out that if being our friends won't win them our support even when they clearly deserve it, then aligning with the US really isn't worth taking the heat that goes along with it.
