I think the point is that the coverage most of us have now is just as bad as most of the stories we hear about how terrible socialized medicine would be. My recent horror story is just getting a doctor to see me -- my insurance doesn't cover check-ups, and so I don't have a regular doctor. In early September I tried to make an appointment to get checked out for some possibly serious symptoms. Of the doctors who take my insurance, the earliest I could get an appointment was mid-November (because I'm a first-time patient).
