But from what I've seen, they did this whole gig with an eye to causing the rough equivalent death count of Pearl Harbor... they just nipped it, barely passing it. But it seems they really went about it like they intended to kill right around 4000. The Pentagon strike targeted a newly renovated portion of the building, it was mostly empty. The jet full of people that they said struck the Pentagon were flown to Cleveland and released, nobody dies from that flight... remember, there were zero bodies at the Pentagon recovered from the jet. (they didn't even recover a jet) Meanwhile in NYC, the first flight that hit dead square at the WTC, trapping the top floors with the fire, was aimed way up high at the tower, while the other jet that struck much lower, flew the corner ... everyone could have escaped that fire, it didn't trap anyone. Then there was WTC7, it was fully evacuated before they pulled it, not one death. The real tragedy was ground zero clean up, some kind of radiation poisoning killed over ten times as many clean up workers as died in the demolition of the three buildings.... something on the order of 40,000. That's what Rosie O'Donnell was shooting her mouth off about when she got yanked from her own show... the government didn't want the lawsuits for all those deaths.

I hate to tell you, we sabotaged the Maine in Cuba's harbor (Spanish-American War), we sunk the Lusitania (as if the Germans would have done that just as they were about to win World War I), our Naval Intelligence drew up a 8 point plan to cajole the Japanese into attacking us and FDR followed it to the tee, then didn't warn the commanding officers on Pearl, we attacked our own patrol boats that got us into Vietnam, and we point blank drew up a plan for a "Pearl Harbor type event" to declare war on Afghanistan. Notice we go on fighting in Afghanistan and also in Pakistan... gotta finish the natural gas pipeline. Bush administration somehow squeezed two wars out of 09/11... while everyone was still good and mad they convinced Congress to attack Iraq also. You better believe it was planned ahead of time, that's why they let Bin Laden get away; had to leave that thirst for justice to use it to launch another war. Two wars for one stone. It is a sickening way to live out the one life God gives you on the planet, but the chicken hawks believed they were doing the right thing; Bush even believed God answered his prayer to go ahead with it.
