maybe the air traffic control in charge of the mysterios "area 51" had him shot him down (prehaps fearing a lone kamikaze style suicde bombing) or at least radioed to tell him to land on the runway and they just are releasing him yet as to not reveal the bases location, (although it can be seen on google earth)
