In the verse

Whose laughs are hearty, tho' his jests are coarse

I take it that the sense pointed by "tho'" is the hearty potency of his
coarseness.

The Squire is a Green Man, John Barleycorn, a Jolly Forester.

Though coarse, he will father ten strong children, hearitly.
