Speaking of frog poets, I suspect that "imaginary gardens with real toads" owes something to Tristan Corbiere's poem about the "rossignol de la boue," Le Crapaud (The Toad).

There is a translation by Yvor Winters somewhere in a magazine -- I think it's not collected.
