Its a particularly immoral, or perhaps unethical line of questioning from my perspective. It appears he was trying to get her to say that. But there's a catch: their children will read that too and likely interpret it that she wouldn't want to give birth to them and raise them.
Good going Charlie!!!
If I was her adult son reading this questioning later, I would consider Rose to be a man seeking a professional scoop at the cost of MY feelings and relations with my family. I would want to punch him in the belly, if the opportunity arrived, for taking advantage of my mom's vulnerability and confused state of mind.
Sometimes I watch Charlie's show and find him to be pompous and deserving of a good verbal or intellectual smackdown, except he screens his guests so well that only the odd comic or movie star is able or willing to do so. Bobby De Niro and Robin Willams come to mind.
If people wonder why divorces and adultery are messing, its thinking like this that emerges- I wish I didn't meet my husband- that hurts the kids. No one can go back and change things, so just shut up Charlie. Get out of your dark studio and get some sunshine.....
