Gays are not a "special interest group" any more than any subset of society. They deserve equal treatment under the law. This is all about justice and equality bitch.

Marriage is a religious term. The state has no business putting it's stamp of legitimacy on a religious concept. That is to go into the religion business. It is also why you have to be a registered cleric in order to conduct a marriage ceremony. This violates the establishment clause. States and the govt need to get out of the religion biz and issue nothing but civil unions to opposite and same sex marriage. Then all the divorce laywers can get rich.
