Re: Holland Relatives

Let me guess, you speak a foreign language, right? It's always easy for someone who does to state that the other person doesn't want to take the time to learn. Or that it's not rude to speak one's own language.

What would you think if you walk into a room and people stop talking normally and start whispering?

What would you think if you were invited to someone's home and they seated you in the Living Room and went into another room and talked to everyone else there and left you all alone? Is that rude or not?

What would you think if you were invited to someone's home and they didn't speak your language or English? Would you feel left out of the conversation?

This is what it feels like to us "snobby Americans".

Don't even start with having to accomodate people in having to speak English when they visit another country. Look at all the people that come to "snobby America" because they'll have a better life and refuse to learn English? They stretch out their hands for all we have to offer them, then we have to have interpreters for them. So tough luck if he has to translate--how does he think some of the people feel when they have to translate here.

Maybe he should've told her all about his family first, so he wouldn't have to go into so much detailed information when translating.
