Hey, chill out. Not all women are like that. I personally don't want a diamond when/if my boyfriend proposes. I know he can't really afford one, so I don't want him to do anything that stresses him financially or emotionally - not a great way to start our life together. I would agree with some of the other ladies, I would say the majority of women are not greedy and superficial and feel the need to have a honkin' big ring.

Aside from that, a diamond would have no emotional significance for me. I would much rather have a vintage sapphire (his birthstone) or garnet (mine), both of which are MUCH less expensive than diamonds.

So why don't you get the opinion of some women before you start making sweeping generalizations?
