Re: "wrong sex" as a birth defect
by rampart
Ultimately, those who have male/female mind/body issues will become fewer and fewer in number. Consequently, any financial impact if city, state or federal agencies pony up the money for it will be negligible. Why? As science uncovers the biological components that impact transgendered and similar persons, a fetal test will eventually be developed, similar to other tests of developmental abnormalities. Once this happens, parents will abort a fetus predisposed to "transgendered issues" as parents now do for other analogous issues. To many, it will be like eliminating polio or other illnesses and save available public health money. The ironic thing is what the transgendered community is so desperate to have, physical/medical validation that they aren't just crazy, will be the same thing that eliminates the transgendered condition. Be careful what you wish for.
