Well said. I would add that frequently those who are most vocal about the harshness of our criminal justice system are frequently those who are first to call for the noose when the wealthy are facing legal troubles. Wouldn't it be a bit more consistent to call for leniency, in all cases, when the circumstances are appropriate? Our justice system serves many purposes: punishment, specific deterrence, general deterrence, rehabilitation and public safety. This affair is only serving the public's incessant need for public shaming and vindictiveness, purposes explicitly extracted from our legal jurisprudence with just cause. For those of you who feel she deserves incarceration should spend a night in a county jail before setting personal sentencing standards for people you don't know that have committed 'crimes' you didn't witness.
