That Elephant in the Room
by Careyagimon
It always strikes me as funny that vegetarianism is never mentioned as a legitimate strategy for conservation. Deforestation for cattle ranches? Solved! Deforestation for soy-beans? Solved! 60-90% of all grains are fed to cattle. Deforestation for biofuels? Solved! Again, such a tremendous amount of land is used for grazing cattle and growing corn/soybeans for cattle.

Not only is it good for deforestation, it's good for climate change. The meat and dairy industry is now the largest contributer to greenhouse gasses.

The really good news: It's completely free to be vegetarian. You can do it right this very second. You don't need to spend 20k on a Prius. You don't have to negotiate treaties with foreign countries. All you need to do is to stop eating meat.

Of course you will have to contend with a torrent of silly dinosaur comments. See the following posts for examples. ;)
