It's one you have to learn to hold in check if you want to live in a civil society. If we all acted as we desired to when we thought there was a threat or that we were wronged, there couldn't be a justice system. It's one of the fundamental parts of the social contract: you give up your right to exact vengeance on people you believe have wronged you in return for the protections and guarantees of your rights among other members of the society.

So maybe you wouldn't be able to restrain yourself, but don't operate under the delusion that what you'd do would be noble, effective, or helpful.
