Google Doctor
by scout29c

Just as in the past, if you wanted to be famous or were famous, you needed a media consultant, so too now, you need a Google Doctor. An extent of the recently hyped term “spin doctor”, the GD would take care of your rep on the web.

As you noted, Jack, you don’t own fame it owns you, but sort of like a possession, you do have some control over it. Many of the famous don’t realize they are their rep, and when they lose their rep they lose themselves, and more importantly, a very valuable resource. Just ask Martha Stewart how valuable those stocks were compared to that of her rep.

There are people who know how to play Google and get desired results. I’m not one of those as my blog readership bears witness, but I know it can be done. These GD could sell their services to those whose rep need grooming or just maintenance.

The GD’s are already out there. As the recent stories of staffers and companies fixing their Wikipedia entry or stories of Google bombs in the last election, pros and amateurs are running amok trying to influence how we previous others on the web.

Worrying about how an old story in the NYTimes will affect your rep is so last century.
