Unpopular?
by Geyser

"Will Bush be the most Unpopular President?" Slate V asked this question.

So far Bush's lowest popularity mark is 25% He's not far from the lowest mark ever given a President, James Buchanan holds the record low at 22% Other Presidents have reached the depths of the 20s, Truman and of course Nixon.

Buchanan's low mark hit when the South seceded from the Union. Buchanan chose to do nothing about it. It was so bad for him, he also is the only President that never married.

Truman, Nixon and Bush all had and have the same problem, each during their Terms were involved with a unpopular War. Truman the Korean War, Nixon, Viet Nam and Bush, Iraq

Before some of you go off some where, there is Hope for your Bush. When the Korean War ended, some of the work and programs Truman started were greeted favorably by the people. His popularity rose out of the Twenties allowing Truman to leave office on a high note. The future was not so kind to Nixon. He remained unpopular until well, today.

Bush does have the chance to redeem himself, anything is possible. He unfortunately, did not give himself a very good chance by saying, the next President will have to contend with ending the fighting. If Bush leaves office with the War no where near ending, he remains the best chance since Nixon to surpass Buchanan in the negative direction.
