TURNING MINOR VICES INTO MAJOR CRIMES
by dianasatyr

It's the American way. Our prosecutors seem to see their role as societal inquisitors. Every new deviation from demure and circumspect behavior (enjoying minor drugs, having sex with your younger girlfriend, mentioning abortion while providing reproductive counseling, drinking to slight excess, etc., etc., --and now sending a naked picture of yourself to someone--is viewed as a terrible moral horror, and our eager prosecutors leap in to extirpate it.

They do not care what they do to the lives of those malefactors. Crime--no SIN--must be stamped out at any cost.

I am sick of this place. We can wait for generations and it will never become civilized. It is like a vast metastasized version of early Puritan New England. Only now the number of people from whom it can excise Sin at the expense of their freedom or the quality of their entire remaining lives numbers in the tens of millions, rather than merely the thousands.
