Bush rally arrests thoughts
by wittgenstein
Typically, this kind of activity (the arrests of people wearing, for gosh sakes, t-shirts that were anti-Bush) is a precursor, a sort of trial balloon, for deeper incursions into civil liberties by those seeking to enlarge their domain of influence. If you read history, you will see that far from being a benign, isolated event, this is, instead, part of a larger theoretical stance. My observations are not trailer park paranoia. Interested readers are directed to the site of the Union of Concerned Scientists, which represents dozens of Nobel laureates among its hundreds of top notch scientists. There, they may read about how the current administration, ala the Stalin years in the defunct Soviet Union, has edited, suppressed and quashed many different scientific papers, positional statements and findings from within its own ranks. Lysenko lives. I can only imagine what would happen if a) there were no term limits and Bush came back again some how, and b) if there were a large terrorist attack within our borders, allowing the current administration to suspend both general civil liberties and related constitutional restraints, up to and including staying in power under emergency declarations. Cross you fingers that we'll pass through the next year without any such nightmare.
