The living room test
by johnzep

In a presidential race, substance is important. That is why candidates tout their experience, give "major policy addresses", and release reams of white papers.

But let's not kid ourselves...style and personality matter too. All other things being equal, having a likable candidate can inspire your base and can woo undecided voters.

In 2000 and again in 2004, I think Democrats were hobbled by having candidates less likable than George Bush.

So my question...who passes and who fails the living room test. That is....which candidates would you be happy having beamed into your living room via the nightly news for the (loooong) duration of the 2008 campaign? Which candidates would make you want to have your eyes devoured by fire ants rather than have to see night after night on CNN?

Here's my list:

Passes the Test:

Obama, Edwards, Richardson, Biden

Fails the Test (get me the fire ants)

Clinton, Gravel

Unsure

Dodd , Kucinich
