enter the fray: our reader discussion forum
Good news, everyone!
by Freditor_G Editor

I've resigned!

Seriously, I will be moving on to bigger and better things at the end of the month. While I could surely say a lot about our time together, this is probably one of those occasions when less is definitely more.

I recognize I've done you guys a great disservice over the last year and a half or so - if I had been more realistic with my time management, I would have left a long time ago.

Fortunately, Slate will be creating a new Fray Editor position - last I heard they're looking at a full-time post based out of one of the home offices. I think that proposal has a lot of advantages (keep griping about the archives for me), but you'll have to do your part to keep the fresh young thing they hire committed to presenting the honest voice of the readers to Slate's staff. In my ideal world the Fray Editor would be the equivalent of Slate's ombudsman, working with you guys to hold our writers and editorial staff to the level of integrity that everyone in the news business aspires to.

Whoever the newcomer is, he or she will be arriving with a total fresh perspective. At a minimum, I hope you can find it in your heart to surrender your frustrations with me, the magazine, and/or my freditorial colleagues (Adam and Moira will also be leaving) and give the newbie your full support.

As for my future... well, those of you who have wished ill on me since before I even signed on as Fray Editor will surely be disappointed. But, for the rest of you who might care, I'm pleased to report that (a) I've got a new job; (b) I won't ever have to be a lawyer; and (c) I get to continue writing for a living, which I've been doing a great deal of despite my lack of Fraywatch columns.

I'll try and make some time over the next two weeks to actually speak with you guys, and answer some of the questions you might have about what's happening or why. Despite my constant surliness and our often testy interactions, I really respect you guys and admire what happens here. Keep up the good work.
