While there are some parallels with the conflicts of India and Iraq, the biggest difference is that Iraq was not a colony for 200 years and does not have the huge population with ethnic, religious, cultural and language divisions that are part of the Indian subcontinent. Due to those differences, Indians of all backgrounds continue to use the British style of governance and use English as the business and administrative language that has helped keep the nation together. I suspect that if Iraq is partitioned, unlike the situation with India in 1947, ethnic cleansing will be less likely because the major ethnic/religious groups have now mostly separated and, if needed, be protected by neighboring countries who currently have no desire to fight each other. Another difference is that in 1947, the world was not faced with ideological/religious terrorist movements. Scary as the Cold War was, at least the Soviets were not blowing up buses using child suicide bombers or flying passenger planes into buildings.
