Your reaction gives me some insight into how Geraldine Ferraro could have constructed her inartful but I suspect sincere assessment of his "black advantage". Obama's "blackness" was not the critical issue prompting the reaction to his election. It was his backstory, his temperament and his truly unique skill set. He is a truly creative pragmatist who is not constrained by the polarized constructs that seem to permeate most discussions of race or class in this society and who happens to be black. One sees new possibilities for solutions with him; a third, fourth or fifth wave, maybe.

I concede, he is different and that difference is elevating for many of us. However, the "difference" is more complex than just being about race.
