Most eco-conscious people are not against fun. The bottom line of all ecological debate is that there are certain processes that are not sustainable. As it is, our Halloween culture is unsustainable. Most of the article is just pointing out that Halloween is a much more energy intensive holiday than most would think. I think the article is pretty humble in saying that there isn't a simple answer to being perfectly sustainable, but that there a couple easy things to do that can help.

I am a big fan of certain days of excess, but why not partake in a more-aware version when it is simple enough to do so?
