A late Update/Revision

Conventioal wisdom up to this point had always held that Homo Erectus evolved from an earlier pre-humanoid - Homo Habilis. But a recent discovery by paleontologist Meave Leakey in Kenya indicates that both species co-existed at the same time - 1.5 million years ago for at least half a million years. That makes it unlikely that Homo Erectus evolved from Homo Habilis.

They have some still-undiscovered common ancestor that probably lived 2 million to 3 million years ago, a time that has not left much fossil record.
