Just wanted to get a post on the board that took us away from the back-biting and squabbling that has been going on all weekend. Plus, I love to study the history of mankind.

I think the best "timeline" can be established by studing the DNA differences between our species and the apes. Noting the number of variations, and the "nominal" time it takes for mutations to appear in the genes, they have dated that "split" at about 5 million years of so.
