I doubt that the author of the article meant the the Iraqi insurrectionists were the moral equivalent of the fictitious Wolverines it the "Red Dawn" situation as described. The tactics are of the Iraqi Resistance are more vicious.

What he meant was that the arising of the two resistance movements were equally inevitable, for one simple reason: It's human nature that if another country invades yours you fight the invaders any way you can.

I'm still amazed that our leaders didn't expect this when they ordered the invasion of Iraq (and before that the invasion of Viet Nam.) I think in the Iraq case it was the ideology of the neo-cons (America is entitled to pacify the world because it's the strongest and best country in the world.) that blinded Bush, et al., to the inevitable.

And then of course, we always think that our super weapons will always win.
