Television = root of obesity
by dmcgovern
TV is worthless, let me explain. The average number of TVs in the typical American household has recently surpassed the number of occupants in that household. In addition, the average amount of time each American spends watching TV is 4hr35min (1). Incidentally, the average marathon time for men has risen to 4hr20min, and a staggering (sorry ladies) 4hr51min for women (2). Now, consider that 30.6% of the American population is obese, let alone overweight (3). In 1998, obesity was estimated to cost up to $78.5 billion (4). I have no doubt that the numer of obese persons has risen since 1998, and the cost of related healthcare has also risen. Follow my logic here and we see that if the average American stopped watching TV (heaven forbid), they would be able to run a marathon every single day. Think about that. Now think about what running a marathon every single day would do to obesity trends in this country. Think about how much money would be saved. Think about how incidence of diabetes would decrease, lifespan and quality of life would increase. Now think about getting rid of your TV, and think about moving your ass more often. PS - I am 23 and by choice, I do not own a TV
