When someone talks about a child needing to learn discipline, that means:

a system of rules of conduct or method of practice

or

develop (children's) behavior by instruction and practice; especially to teach self-control

It does not mean:

punish in order to gain control or enforce obedience

So yes as I said above it bothers me when people think the first 2 definitions are the same as the 3rd one.
