Ok, so the CEO might not have to wear an orange jumpsuit, but the effect is still pretty close. You're imposing a punishment on industries like producing electricity, steel, or other higher-level fuel consuming instustries that Microsoft or even Annheuser-Busch will never have to deal with.
I'm not a fan of either version of "cap and trade," but at least McCain's gives you a chance to keep your costs from shooting through the roof, while Obama's screws you from the get-go with no way out. Xando's point is exactly what I and the rest of us "right wing extremists" have been saying about the oil industry. Please, invent new technology. Find alternative fuels. Do it. However, you can't just declare with one swoosh of a pen that oil is no longer an option. Lots of progress has been made, but there is no viable replacement yet. When it comes on the market, we'll use it. Until then, let us drill so we don't have to pay $10 a gallon for gas in a few years.
Someone here is going to barf out some kind of nonsense that I don't care about the environment. I'm counting the minutes until that happens. The truth is that I think that we should be good stewards of our home here, but this idea of levying yet another tax burden on our already taxed corporations is not the right answer.
