We, the people supporting Ron Paul, Cato, strict construction and end to jackbooted thugs, didn't know you cared Christopher. "Belarusian atmosphere," why that's almost original. So Fighting Words has taken note of the war on innocent people mendaciously known as a war on drugs? This is the first we've heard in almost 6 years of Slate columns. Naturally we'll be a little reluctant to recognize the conversion as fully sincere. Government excess has been on the rise and the rage for my lifetime. Hitchens spent most of those years writing about Mother Theresa and Trotsky. Does he know of Gordon Kahl, John Singer, MOVE, Cointelpro, Henry Murray, MK-Ultra, Sidney Gotlieb, Whitey Bulger....and on and on? And this is only to note violent criminality.
The government's role in the mortgage crisis will never receive full scrutiny. The regimes enforcers see Martha Stewart as a worthy white collar target. Garnering trillions for paper of purely theoretical value is no big deal. Sure there is a house at the bottom of all that en-tranche-ment but who ends up with title will be a boon to law firms for decades to come. Centralized government banking is the source of the whole problem. When debt equals money people that create wealth, carpenters for example in this case, stand to lose plenty.
Obama won't be curing any of these ills as the only possible remedy is an arsenal of silver bullets. Government has no right to bust down your door because it sniffs out an agricultural product it doesn't approve of, the constitution specifically forbids it in numerous places. It has no right to seize your income and give it to foreign countries for any reason. It has no right plant agent provocateurs in legitimate political groups which it has done many times. It has no right compensate some market failures at the expense of successes as well as other failures. Of course a list like this could go on for days.
Hitchens is a man indebted to Trotsky, he certainly won't be in on the fight to restrain the bureau-thugocracy that no president in the last 4 decades has failed to cultivate. Foreign wars and entanglements are the very foods that provide most of this beast's nourishment. Barack Obama has yet to sponsor a single bill, or even vote for one as far as I know, that would turn down the public serpents constantly plying the Hill for larger, fuller troughs.
Th Hogs at the Gay Edgar Hovver Building, in the Mid-east, at ADM, and on Wall Street have been slopped long enough. Now's the time to slaughter them and roast them on a spit over an open flame. Stop the checks, stop the subsidies, stop the bailouts and prosecute the traitors on F Street and on Wall Street. Obama never should have been heard of, just like Un-Hitched a commie bitching about the gendarmerie, that's about like a Nazi lamenting the loss of a rabbi.
