Every time a politician aspires to statesmanship, there's always a cadre of simpletons who think he's overextended himself, who think he should "dumb down" his message so that even the semi-literate voter can understand.

For Gore (a bit of a simpleton himself) that was good advice which he had not the sense to incorporate. For Kerry, a Boston Brahmin (a la M*A*S*H*'s Charles Winchester) it may have helped the befuddled to figure out what the hell he was talking about; at least it may have prevented them from going to sleep.

Now Jacob Weisberg whose pandering tendencies are only eclipsed by Michael Kinsley's wants Obama to concoct an Orwellian maxim, something even the Bushies might understand:
