DC politicians have been pressuring banks to make loans available to almost anybody to increase home ownership. The feds created the monsters freddie and fannie. The feds passed many laws to enable the bad loans.

The lenders stupidly bet on ever increasing home prices. The feds should have let them fail. Of course the feds had to back freddie and fannie under the stupid laws.

Government as usual was the main cause of the problems and now most people think government is the answer.
