Re: Hurricane Gustav and the GOP

"Obama could have PROVED his leadership and bipartisanship abilities by getting on television and reaching out to Republicans and Democrats alike to come to gether to help the endangered deep south; but he did nothing."

Hmm... I wonder why he did nothing. That's a great question.

Maybe because hurricane Gustav was still 4 days away from an unpredictable landfall!

Maybe because the governor of the state of Louisiana hadn't even started evacuations yet!

Maybe because this killer hurricane, which was still far out to sea during the DNC, has now downgraded to a category 2 - you know, kind of like what happens with all unpredictable weather patterns!

I live in St. Louis and I've got news for you: no one here, not this entire state, stopped living their lives because of the unknown prospect of a potential hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. Cold-hearted? No. It's called hurricane season for a reason and if the entire country sat around, this time every year, doing nothing in worry over a potential disaster well then this wouldn't be much of a country.

If the shit hits the fan then this state, and all the others, will be willing to help (like they did last time). But it's up to the governor of Louisiana, and the major of New Orleans, to take care of their people.

Let's face it - the GNC got unlucky this year because their schedule happens to coincide with a bad storm. But making this out to be anything more than that is sheer lunacy and bipartisanship on an insane and pathetically desperate scale.
