Re: PUMAs attracted by Palin never were Democrats to start with

Obviously you've never heard that famous expression: "I'm not a member of an organized party. I'm a Democrat!"

Shocker: Not all people who tend to vote Democratic agree on all the issues.

For example, say you're a Catholic voter, uncomfortable with or opposed to abortion, and yet you think healthcare is an important issue, and you like Hillary personally or you think having a female candidate would be momentous - that voter I just described does not fall neatly into Republican or Democratic camps.

Hillary lost, so what do you do? Well, healthcare isn't Obama's signature issue - and yet an Obama presidency might be more successful than a republican one at signing something into law...

On the other hand, you never liked Obama personally, and McCain-Palin are closer on social issues... and you like how Palin is a proven fighter, she takes on entrenched interests, has political courage - Obama doesn't...

Back and forth, back and forth... this is why you have *swing voters* because people are complex beings - and parties exist to serve the voters, not the other way around.
