A pathology of self-medication through puzzle-solving

Most of my life, I have been an undiagnosed Adult Attention Deficit Disorder sufferer, and relied on crosswords and sudoku to give me that focused concentration that was was lacking in the rest of my life. Puzzle-solving was soothing, focusing and self-medicating.

Once I was diagnosed with ADD, and thankfully began medication, my overall ability to focus skyrocketed, my need to solve puzzles to feel good completely stopped, and my interest in crosswords and sudoku vanished.

So, consider how many puzzle addicts may be undiagnosed ADD sufferers.
